Well, Venn was one of the most skilled Harlequins until Azaer recruited him to the cause, having noticed a spark of ambition in him. As for the clans, they were off-shoots of the seven tribes who broke away soon after the great war and intermarried, living in the far north until the gods returned at the end of the age of darkness.
